Powerball: Winning $768.4M Ticket Sold In Wisconsin, Includes Annuity Option

A winning Powerball ticket has been sold in Wisconsin.

A single ticket sold in Wisconsin matched all six numbers in the Wednesday night Powerball drawing to win the third-largest jackpot in U.S. history. Due to strong ticket sales, the jackpot climbed to an estimated $768.4 million at the time of the drawing with a cash option of $477 million.

The jackpot ranks as the third largest in U.S. lottery history behind the world record $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016, and the $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot won in South Carolina last October.

The winning numbers in the Wednesday, March 27 drawing were white balls 16, 20, 37, 44, 62, plus Powerball 12, and Power Play multiplier 3X.

In Wednesday's drawing, more than 5.4 million tickets won prizes ranging from $4 to $2 million.

For the next drawing on Saturday, March 30, the Powerball jackpot resets to a guaranteed $40 million; $24.8 million cash value.

Those are the odds for tonight's big $750 million Powerball drawing, the fourth largest in U.S lottery history.

With no winner since Dec. 26, the Powerball pot has reached historic levels, behind only the world record $1.586 billion Powerball jackpot shared by winners in California, Florida and Tennessee in January 2016; the $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot won in South Carolina last October; and the $758.7 million Powerball jackpot won in Massachusetts in August 2017.

The winner or winners will have the option of receiving either an annuity or lump-sum payment. If the annuity option is selected, the winner is guaranteed to receive 30 graduated payments over 29 years. The annual payments increase by 5 percent until the 30th and final payment.

If the winner opts for a lump-sum payment, they will receive $465.5 million.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play. Participants select five numbers from 1 to 69 for the white balls; then select one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball.

Powerball is played in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
