NEW YORK (AP) _ MetLife Inc. (MET) on Wednesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $2.07 billion.
The New York-based company said it had net income of $2.04 per share. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring gains, were $1.35 per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.30 per share.
The insurer posted revenue of $15.66 billion in the period. Its adjusted revenue was $15.4 billion.
For the year, the company reported profit of $5.12 billion, or $4.91 per share. Revenue was reported as $68.16 billion.
MetLife shares have climbed 10 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 9 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $45.20, a drop of 2 percent in the last 12 months.
