NYC Woman Collected $1.2M Insurance Policy After 1996 Murder, Prosecutors Say

Jan. 29--The stepmom of slain businessman Howard Pilmar said the victim's wife -- on trial for his murder after 23 years -- was matter-of-fact when she called his father in Arizona with the tragic news.

"She said Howard was the victim of a homicide," Carol Pilmar told jurors on Monday at the Manhattan Supreme Court trial of Roslyn Pilmar, who is accused of plotting and executing the murder of her wealthy husband.

Prosecutors say Pilmar, 61, and her brother Evan Wald, 45, repeatedly stabbed Howard Pilmar inside his E. 33rd St. office on March 21, 1996.

Pilmar was "even-keeled" on the phone when she called 75-year-old Carol Pilmar and Howard's father Frank, 90, to tell them their son was dead.

Carol said Roslyn was very concerned with her appearance on the day of the funeral. In the limousine she was "looking in the mirror, fixing her hair," she said.

She told reporters at the start of the trial on Jan. 17 that Roslyn was more concerned with her image than with grieving her husband. "She had to look like she was the star of the show," Carol said.

One of Howard's college pals, Karl Feitelberg, who works in insurance, testified on Monday that Roslyn raked in a $1.2 million life insurance payout after her husband's death..

Prosecutors said Roslyn Pilmar, who had stolen from a former employer and owed him $160,000, inherited his entire estate including properties, cash and other assets.
