TORONTO (AP) _ Manulife Financial Corp. (MFC) on Wednesday reported a loss of $1.26 billion in its fourth quarter.
The Toronto-based company said it had a loss of 65 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for pretax expenses and non-recurring costs, came to 46 cents per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 47 cents per share.
The financial services company posted revenue of $12.79 billion in the period.
For the year, the company reported profit of $1.62 billion, or 76 cents per share. Revenue was reported as $44.97 billion.
Manulife shares have declined 4 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has increased slightly more than 6 percent in the last 12 months.
