Washington, D.C. — The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) applauds President Barack Obama for signing H.R. 1624, allowing states to have greater flexibility in determining their own small group market instead of relying on a single national standard.
The PACE Act repeals the mandated change of definition for small employers from groups of up to 50 employees to include groups of up to 100 employees. Focus will now be on the states as they work to implement this new law. State legislators and departments of insurance that have not previously acted to define small group as anything other than the federal standard will now be faced with the decision to accept this new definition, or to take action to change the definition of small group within their borders.
“As we await the decisions of the states, NAHU will continue to work with the carriers, state legislators and state insurance commissioners on implementation. We are elated President Obama heard the agent and broker community and confirmed his mutual support by signing the bill,” explained Janet Trautwein, CEO of NAHU.
“This is a significant step toward the promotion and protection of insurance consumers, employers and providers alike. NAHU looks forward to working further with Congress toward the betterment of America’s healthcare system through logical and resolute fixes to the ACA.”
The National Association of Health Underwriters represents 100,000 professional health insurance agents and brokers who provide insurance for millions of Americans. NAHU is headquartered in Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.nahu.org.
