Washington, DC, October 20, 2015: Health Agents For America, Inc. (HAFA) is hitting the Hill on October 20th through the 22nd in order to reach out to as many Senators as possible asking for their support of S1653 “Equalizing the Playing Field for Agents and Brokers Act” introduced by Senator Bill Cassidy (LA). This bill would solidify the option for consumers to use an Agent or Broker when making decisions with regard to the Federal Marketplace.
Health Agents for America, Inc. “HAFA”, is a 501©6, bi-partisan association exclusively for Independent, Non-Captive Insurance Agents. HAFA was formed in November 2012 to answer a need for Independent Agents to receive education about the ACA and have clear and concise representation. To date, CMS, HHS and CCIIO have excluded Agents and Brokers from the vital information and resources needed to assist clients with The Federal Marketplace.
Millions of dollars of federal money is spent each year on non-licensed Navigators who may or may not be required to obtain a criminal background check. Weekly newsletters and webinars are provided to the Navigators associations and Agents are excluded. Agents simply want a fair playing field. S1653 has been introduced to give Agents & Brokers the tools they need to service their client effectively.
