85% Say ACA Will Affect Their 2016 Presidential Vote

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 8, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Eighty-five percent of Americans say the Affordable Care Act will factor into their 2016 presidential vote, including 41 percent who say it is very important and 33 percent who say it is somewhat important, according to a new insuranceQuotes.com report.

Americans continue to be divided about the Affordable Care Act: 45 percent would like to keep the law and 44 percent want to repeal it. These percentages are virtually unchanged from September 2013.

Millennials are the most likely to support the ACA and the most likely to say their health insurance situation is better now than one year ago. On the flip side, 50- to 64-year-olds are most in favor of repealing the law and most likely to say their health insurance situation is worse than a year ago.

Nearly half of Americans (47 percent) are either "somewhat" or "very" worried about having affordable health insurance in the future. This is down from 55 percent in August 2014. Women and Hispanics are significantly more anxious about this issue than other groups.

"Health care will certainly be a hot-button issue during the 2016 election," says Laura Adams, senior analyst at insuranceQuotes.com. "Positive and negative emotions are still strong five years after the Affordable Care Act was passed and two years after the initial open enrollment period."

The survey was conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International (PSRAI) and can be seen in its entirety here:

PSRAI obtained telephone interviews with a nationally representative sample of 1,004 adults living in the continental United States. Interviews were conducted by landline (501) and cellphone (503, including 311 without a landline phone) in English and Spanish by Princeton Data Source from September 3-6, 2015. Statistical results are weighted to correct known demographic discrepancies. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
