Sept. 08-- Cindy Larschan looks great. That's obvious.
She's a positive woman, you can tell by her smile.
What's not so obvious is her secret to a vibrant life: She can rearrange her mind faster than the stylish pillows on her couch.
"If I'm in the middle of working, trying to master a new thing, for example, and it gets stressful, I try to drop the stress and do something fun," Larschan says.
She chooses to be happy -- and this is key to having prime health at any age, especially age 50 and beyond.
"Viability is vibrancy," says the Palm Beach Gardens entrepreneur who's got a multi-hyphenated life: Wife-mom-grandmom-businesswoman-golfer-decorator-Pineapple Girl.
Pineapple Girl?
As a partner in PineapplesPalms.com, Larschan manages and curates the online store for Jupiter's Pineapples, Palms Too, a home decor shop that counts golfer Ernie Els and his wife, Liezl, and TV broadcaster Bryant Gumbel and wife Hilary among its fans. The new website brings the store's coastal chic to a national market -- and 5 percent of website sales go to Els For Autism, to benefit The Els Center of Excellence in Jupiter.
The women who work in the store share the relaxed and beachy style it sells and call themselves Pineapple Girls.
"I've always had a passion for nice interiors and using decor to set a mood and a relaxed feeling," says Larschan, who launched the site in May. The slipcovered couches and accents are perfect for the casual entertaining she loves to do.
Her Prime philosophy: "Be happy, be thankful and spend time with positive, optimistic people that encourage and inspire you."
Where she lives: Cindy and husband, Jim, an estate planning specialist for Northwestern Mutual Financial Network, live in Old Marsh Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens and also have a house at the Elk River Club in the mountains of Banner Elk, N.C.
Her happiest activity: Being "Nana" to her four grandsons. She has two children -- daughter Brooke McKernan, who lives in Palm Beach Gardens with her husband, Bill, and sons Colson, 5, Hunter, 4, and McCoy, 8 months -- and son James, who lives in Lake Worth with his wife, Jenny, and son Jack, 16 months.
The importance of family time: "I enjoy having my own interests, but spending time with my family is the most fulfilling to me. During the summer we spend a lot of time in our mountain house and have created great memories with our family and friends who visit us each year. There's something about having everyone under one roof with just outside activities to do together that brings us all closer to each other."
Diet tips: Moderation. "I don't deny myself any food, but I do watch portions. I reserve the bad things for when I'm socializing."
Quote she lives by: "The choice to have a great attitude is something that nobody or no circumstance can take from you." -- Zig Ziglar
Her three tips for staying vibrant and in her prime?
1. Enjoy what you are doing. "I realize that the moments I'm living now are going to be my future memories." She likes what Kurt Vonnegut said: "Enjoy the little things in life because one day you'll look back and realize they were the big things."
2. Continue to be curious and learn. "My work inspires me because I am surrounded by fun and creative people, and I learn something new every day ... The world is going forward, and it's important to stay curious and current. I like to be able to talk to my kids on the level that they are."
3. Eat well and exercise. She and Jim golf in the evenings in North Carolina and also like to hike with their grandsons. Plus, she works out almost daily -- at Synergy Pilates in Jupiter and also on her climber and treadmill at home. She exercises right after rising at 6:30 a.m. "It's good for me mentally to start the day that way."
Favorite things to do in Palm Beach County:
Going to U-Tiki Beach in Jupiter with the kids and grandkids. I can enjoy a glass of wine and the beautiful view, while the kids play in the sand. So everyone is relaxed and happy!
Having a Florida chopped salad with my daughter at Christopher's Kitchen in Palm Beach Gardens.
Having a cocktail at the outside bar at River House in Palm Beach Gardens with my husband, before dinner.
